From a young age we experienced an ugly side to humanity. A South Africa governed by fear and a disregard for human rights. Although at times we felt protected, we knew this would not be forever. This struggle would not be won without great sacrifice. An indestructible love became our pillar of strength. When I looked to my mother, I came to believe that freedom would one day be a reality for all South Africans. From a young age I knew that in order to achieve a free and fair South Africa, we would need to commit ourselves irrespective of the challenges that lay before us. Unlike many, I kew that our efforts to break down an unjust government would not be in vain. We would lead South Africans to victory! I believed, we believed and all South Africans came to believe that Freedom would reign throughout South Africa. Your adversity and determination brought upon us a day many thought would not be possible. The sacrificial journey of a few became a success for all. Freedom would soon be a reality for the people of South Africa. A Father and Daughter reunited. A great achievement that marked a new dawn! A Free and Fair South Africa, who’s constitution was written with the blood and tears of many. Celebrating our history but, focused on the future of South Africa. With Freedom comes great responsibility. Happy Freedom Day.
