Winnie Mandela held centre stage as the champion of the anti-apartheid revolution throughout the most turbulent era of South African history. She was the architect of South Africa’s liberation struggle and the matriarch dubbed ‘the Mother of the Nation’. She took the apartheid system head-on at huge personal cost in her stand against injustice and went on to serve on the ANC's National Executive Committee and later to become the President of the ANC’s Women’s League
In order to ensure her lifelong pursuit of political equality, human rights, equal opportunity and social justice would continue, she co-founded the Mandela Legacy.
